In a June 7 letter, the Jockeys’ Guild informed its membership that, starting July 1, Monmouth Park jockeys will no more time be included by Guild insurance coverage insurance policies. The Guild has been providing momentary incapacity advantages, everyday living insurance policy and Accident, Demise and Incapacity added benefits to those people who have picked to trip in New Jersey.
The Guild has been adamant in its perception that racing has grow to be additional harmful at Monmouth Park due to the fact jockeys are no more time permitted to motivate their mounts with the use of the whip. In the June 7 letter, sent out to all Guild members, Guild President and CEO Terry Meyocks wrote that, “The raise of threat is thus building a better publicity for the Jockeys’ Guild and the added benefits that we offer to our users who are using underneath such regulation.”
Meyocks claimed that the price tag of the insurance policy procedures has, so far, not increased due to the whip polices, but that the Guild’s Board of Administrators is concerned that the ban will at some point direct to greater fees.
As soon as the procedures have been withdrawn, it appears that anybody driving at Monmouth will either have to just take out insurance coverage of their own or take the hazards that would come from riding with no coverage. When asked if he anticipated that some riders would chose to go away Monmouth simply because of the insurance coverage scenario, Meyocks replied, “I have no idea. I definitely never. All we have accomplished all along is to just advise everybody.”
Dennis Drazin, who heads the administration corporation that operates the racetrack, lashed out at the Guild Monday, calling the conclusion to withdraw the insurance a “cheap shot.”
“This is an uncalled-for reaction to a rule that the racing commission set into effect and now they want to punish their personal jockeys since they are driving,” Drazin claimed. “It would not replicate very well on the Jockeys’ Guild. It is anything they should really not have performed. Insurance plan companies will not cancel your protection because of the racing fee placing in a regulation that the Guild has recognised about for two many years.”
Drazin instructed that people who will proceed to experience at Monmouth have the grounds for a lawsuit from the Guild.
“The opinions I have read are that some of the jocks are upset with the Guild and do not feel that they are symbolizing them perfectly,” Drazin explained. “Now they choose that they are likely to suspend the gains that they deliver to our jockeys. Frankly, if our jockeys required to, they have a very great lawsuit against the Guild.”
Meyocks mentioned that Monmouth is on a listing of tracks that do not make any fiscal contributions to the Guild’s coverage insurance policies.
Monmouth kicked off its 2021 fulfill May perhaps 28 with the strictest policies in the activity concerning whipping. The guidelines, place into effect by the New Jersey Racing Fee, permit jockeys to have whips but they can only use them when they truly feel they are in an unsafe condition. At no stage in a race can a jockey use the whip to stimulate the horse. Jockeys Joe Bravo and Antonio Gallardo have refused to ride at the meet up with owing to safety fears, but Monmouth has experienced no issue acquiring sufficient jockeys ready to journey. 10 racing times into the fulfill, the racing has been conducted without having any recognizable protection difficulties.
